McCombs Funeral Home to start offering catered meals in family center

by Jay Forness ~ Assistant Editor

McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson has started offering catered meals in its lower-level family center.

Funeral Director Bruce Dockins said the family center has been used for family meals ever since it was built in 2016, but now it is easier than ever to organize meals after funeral services.

“There are few things in the funeral business that you can offer that somebody else doesn’t already have,” Dockins said. “This will give us that privilege and I’m glad for that.”

McCombs is working with Hinkebein Hills Farm BBQ and Catering to offer both “finger food “offerings at $9.95 per person and full dinner meals at $10.95 per person.

“It allows families to stay in one place after the ceremony and not have to bring food if they don’t want to.” Dockins said.

Dockins said families can still bring their own food to the center or even have another company cater, but McCombs decided to offer this new catering menu to make it easier for families to plan.

For finger food catering, some of the options include sliders, burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and pulled pork, as well as cheese balls, little “smokies,” fruit and vegetable trays, mac and cheese balls, fried chips and slaw for sides and appetizers.

Full dinners meals can include smoked chicken, baby back ribs, pork steak, fried chicken and mostaccioli. Side options for the full meals include all those offered for the luncheon, plus potato salad, hash brown potatoes, twice baked potatoes and green bean casserole. Desserts and salads are also offered.

Tea, lemonade, water and coffee can be supplied with either type of meal at no additional cost. Plates and utensils will also be supplied with each catered event.

Each event is required to be cleared by 1:30 p.m. for morning services, or 6:30 p.m. for afternoon services.

The family center, located directly below the largest chapel at McCombs, can comfortably seat 40 people and has a 50-inch television screen that can be used for memorial videos or pictures.
